Unmindful of the Church’s teaching?

Sir, — I was horrified to read in the Radio Times about the programme Married at First Sight, in which couples are married without meeting one another, having been “profiled”. What concerned me most was that a C of E clergyman was associated with it.

While I presume that the ceremony will be a civil marriage, this still debases the concept that marriage is a sacrament and for life, and it weakens the Church’s position when, in viewers’ eyes, this is condoned by the C of E.

To what level will broadcasters stoop to boost viewing figures? I understand that those participating have given their consent, but these experiments should not be for public viewing.

Where is the voice of the Church?
